Arcadia Art Academy was founded in 1998 by Michael Chen, an animation artist who worked more than ten years in Hollywood on numerous animation shows. The program serves preschoolers, K–12 students, and adults, and all classes can be customized based on each student’s skill level and goal. The curriculum is structured based on students’ psychological characteristics and brain development, with a student-oriented approach intended to boost students’ interest through their learning process and to help them progressively achieve mastery of the fundamentals of visual art. The school states that its rigorous courses and intensive training prepare students to master fundamental skills for visual art, express personality and style through art design, integrate art into industrial practices such as entertainment or marketing, and develop a portfolio for college applications and a foundation for advancement to college study. Arcadia Art Academy states that it has helped many students gain admission to prestigious art and design schools and that it serves the community with fine art classes tailored for a wide range of age groups.
