Arcadia Montessori School was established in 1963 and has empowered children aged 2–6 for over 60 years. It offers Toddler and Primary programs for ages 2–6 that emphasize practical life, sensorial, language, math, and cultural studies at the child’s pace in mixed-age classrooms with hands-on materials. The school describes its admissions as inclusive and open to all children who are age-appropriate and notes that it offers assistance with toilet-training. It is described as the oldest and most prestigious Montessori Preschool in the San Gabriel Valley and the oldest Montessori school in the San Gabriel Valley, and it is a multi-generational school where many staff, as well as many of the staff’s children and grandchildren, have attended Arcadia Montessori School.
Owner-Director Cheryl Roberts has led the school since 1976 and holds a Speech Pathology degree from California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA). The teaching team is fully Montessori-trained and vetted, with teachers trained at an accredited Montessori training center and/or holding a Bachelor’s Degree, and all staff members are CPR certified and live scanned. Teachers at Arcadia Montessori School carefully prepare classroom environments that emphasize consistency and dependability, and they are described as warm and loving, sparking children’s imaginations, kindling a sense of limitless possibilities, encouraging self-confidence, and promoting positive attitudes toward lifelong learning.
The school’s mission is to provide a warm, nurturing, safe environment that will guide children to develop to their fullest potential, with each child encouraged to learn and explore their interests and natural curiosity through a prepared environment, hands-on materials, mixed-age classrooms, and trained teachers. Arcadia Montessori School was recently featured in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. One parent shared in 2017, “Arcadia Montessori School has been wonderful to my family. The teachers facilitate an environment where the students develop many important skills--skills I am convinced they wouldn't have learned but for the great faculty and staff. We are so happy with our experience here.”
