City of Atascadero Youth Sports & Aquatics offers aquatics activities including group swim lessons, lap swim, recreational swim, and private swim lessons with a certified lifeguard. The program also offers youth basketball, T-Ball, youth volleyball, the Start Smart Sports Development Program, and youth pickleball classes, along with activities in baseball/softball, basketball, soccer, and overall body movement as part of Start Smart Sports.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Group swim lessons are offered Monday–Friday in three 30-minute sessions between 12:10 PM and 2:00 PM; lap swim and recreational swim are available Monday–Friday in the afternoons; private swim lessons run in 30-minute sessions on Thursday and Friday over two weeks; T-Ball, youth volleyball, and Start Smart Sports run on set dates in the spring and summer; Start Smart Sports meets once a week for 6 weeks.
• Price: Drop-in lap and recreational swim is $5 per participant; swim passes are $45 for 10 swims and can be shared among family members; group swim lessons cost $88 for residents and $96.80 for non-residents; private swim lessons cost $191 for residents and $210.10 for non-residents.
Private swim lessons consist of four 30-minute one-on-one sessions with a certified lifeguard. The youth basketball program stresses individual skill development, teamwork, positive attitudes, and fun in a non-competitive setting, and offers a division for anyone in grades Kindergarten through 12th at any skill level. The Start Smart Sports Development Program is a proven instructional program that prepares children ages 3–5 for the world of organized sports without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt, with parents working together with their children and exercises that become more difficult as children show improvement.
T-Ball practices are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from March 24th to April 9th, with Picture Day on April 14th and games on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from April 16th to May 21st. Youth volleyball practices take place on June 16th, 18th, 23rd, and 25th, with Picture Day on June 25th and games on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 30th to July 30th. Start Smart Sports with Coach Trey runs from April 20th through June 1st, with no class on May 25th.
Swim passes must be purchased in person, and passes or drop-in swim fees may be paid on the day of with onsite pool staff via cash or check. The City of Atascadero partners with the Atascadero Pickleball Club, whose members assist in teaching youth pickleball classes. Scholarships are available for seasonal youth sports activities including basketball, T-Ball, youth volleyball, and Start Smart Sports programs.
