About

The Farm School gives children hands on time with animals and time to explore the land through nature hikes around the property. The program also includes pondside lunches as part of the day’s activities. Classes are held entirely outdoors, and a large barn is used as a classroom space, with restrooms available on site.

The Farm School takes place on a 20-acre ranch that includes cattle, pigs, chickens, goats, and horses, as well as 2 ponds, creeks, a large garden, a playground, a workshop, and a large barn used as a classroom. The ranch was previously a Wildlife Rescue Center and now operates as a real, working ranch. The program offers a Parent Participation Preschool Program and a Homeschool Pod, and parents remain on site with their children or have drop-off hours limited to less than 4 hours one day per week for certain classes. The program describes itself as family oriented and community building, and a family of 5 and grandparents live on the land and help with tasks around the farm.

Teachers at The Farm School have blended experience in early childhood education and agriculture, and often have ECE credits and/or teaching credentials. Many teachers also have extensive history working with children with special needs. The program is categorized by the state as a license exempt early childhood education/childcare program and is fully insured.

The Farm School’s mission is to provide agriculturally focused and family centered educational programs to the Northern California region through its Parent Participation Preschool and Homeschool Pod. The ranch sits beside the Placer Land Trust, and the founders opened their farm to the community and launched Farm School to do that. In 2018, they founded “Little Leapers,” an early childhood sports and recreation company.
