Catalina Kids’ Nature Lab: Afterschool Science meets on Mondays, with a session on April 20 at 2:15pm. The program is connected with the Catalina Island Conservancy, which focuses on the island’s natural environment, including more than 60 species of plants and animals found only on Catalina. Operation Protect Catalina Island is a 30-year commitment linked to this work, focusing on reducing wildfire risk, safeguarding freshwater, and restoring native plants.

Founded in 1972 as a nonprofit organization, the Catalina Island Conservancy is one of the oldest private land trusts in Southern California. Its mission is to be an exemplary steward of island resources through a balance of conservation, education, and recreation. The Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity established to protect and restore Catalina Island for future generations to experience and enjoy. The organization also has a partnership with the Gabrieleno-Tongva community that focuses on strengthening cultural connections.
