Summer Art Camp offers themed week-long workshops that focus on visual art. During the Summer Art Camp Exhibition, kids can also take part in a free art activity.

Summer Art Camp includes Pre-K & K Camp for ages 2–5, Kids Camp for ages 6–11, and Teen Camp for ages 12–17. The program concludes with a special exhibition on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, featuring artwork from Summer Art Camp students, with free admission, light refreshments, and a free art activity for kids. The camp is part of the Bakersfield Museum of Art, which was founded in 1956 and later expanded to 17,400 square feet. The museum is a non-profit 501(c)3 tax-exempt institution accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and earned a 2021 Platinum Seal of Transparency.

The museum’s mission is to enhance the quality of life through art appreciation and educational opportunities in the visual arts and to engage and inspire diverse audiences through exhibitions, programs, and educational initiatives. It offers children’s art classes, camps, and workshops that emphasize creative problem-solving and experimentation, and it provides visual arts experiences through exhibitions, educational programs, community outreach, and special events. Leadership at the museum includes Executive Director and Chief Curator Gilbert Vicario, Curator of Exhibitions and Collections Victor Gonzales, Visitor Services & Venue Coordinator Curtis Cargill, Development and Membership Coordinator Alli Duncan, Events & Volunteer Coordinator and art educator Chelsea Geronimo, Assistant Curator Abby Kinsey, Business Manager Toni McCoy, and Marketing & Communications Manager Lauren Marty.
