About
Kidizens offers hands-on LEGO experiences where children build LEGO towns and create the LEGO city of their dreams. The program includes Creative Building Workshops, a Kids Night Out LEGO adventure, and birthday parties with themes such as Minecraft, Star Wars, LEGO Friends, Pokemon, and Ninjago.
• Ages: 6–12 years old
• Schedule: Kids Night Out on select Friday evenings from 5:45pm to 8:45pm
Kidizens has been operated by Kidzz, Inc. since 2010. Its mission is to build responsible, future leaders, one brick, one project, one city at a time, by cultivating creative, critical, and civically responsible thinking as a foundational pillar of future learning in life. The program includes academic summer camps, homeschooling and after-school classes, Creative Building Workshops, and school holiday camps with special themes, as well as homeschool and after school classes with rolling admission and customizable workshops on school campuses with field trip options. Children take on leadership roles as Mayors tasked with managing entire LEGO towns, work together with fellow Co-Mayors to establish their city’s needs, and are presented with programs that challenge them to come up with creative solutions to civic dilemmas. Kidizens describes its approach as project-based learning for elementary students, with experiential learning and social emotional learning as important building blocks of learning and 21st century skill development, and notes that its age-appropriate curriculum meets many California educational standards and engages students in the civic process from a young age.
One parent, Suzzy Mclean, reports that her daughter attended a LEGO camp at Kidizens, built new structures each day in her “tiny” town, and had her imagination sparked. Another parent, Tammy Tingean, states that her son has been attending for four years for summer camps and school breaks, that he still enjoys the camp at age 10, and that it has been his favorite each summer, especially as an avid LEGO fan interested in problem solving and learning about operating a city. Nidhi Dash describes a virtual camp experience in which the camp counselor and helper were patient, enthusiastic, and fun, and says her daughter loved the experience and that she would sign up again for in-person or online programs. Diana Villegas notes that her 9-year-old son “had a blast” and learned a lot in the Young Mayors course and that she plans to sign up for more classes.
