Valley Sports Camp is in its 18th year of summer camps and specializes in youth summer sports camps and after school enrichment programs for boys and girls entering Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. The program is led by Mark, Jeff, and Kim Mercer and is run by a team of teachers who have all played on high level sports teams and have a strong passion for teaching life skills through sports. Its character building program emphasizes different character traits each day, with “Words of the Day” that campers discuss and practice with peers and coaches, along with strategic team building activities that support relationships and a sense of belonging. The camp states that one of its goals is for every camper to leave with more confidence and a love of sports, and to encourage active, physically fit lives while building self-esteem through athletics. Valley Sports Camp notes that its camps and classes are designed for every level of athleticism, that the camp is great for all levels of athleticism, and that kids will spend their session playing and learning a variety of sports with a focus on fun, teamwork, building friendships, communication, and sportsmanship, using both traditional and non-traditional sports games. The program serves Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Morgan Hill, Saratoga, San Jose, San Lorenzo Valley, Scotts Valley, and nearby communities in much of the greater Bay Area and San Lorenzo Valley/Santa Cruz County.
Valley Sports Camp highlights that its coaches are passionate about sports and emphasize fun, teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship while teaching a variety of games. After Camp Care includes a snack and additional organized games and activities. The camp notes that its goal is to build campers’ self-esteem and for all kids to feel successful at the end of the day. The program invites families to check out its 5-star reviews on Google.
Parent feedback shared by Valley Sports Camp includes comments that children “LOVED this camp,” that it was “nearly impossible to find something that they all enjoy and can go to at the same time,” and that one child “begged” to switch from part-day to full day and “loved every minute.” Other parents describe it as “BY FAR one of his favorite camps every year,” say their kids were “ready to go early and were begging to get to camp,” and call it “the best summer sports program,” noting that their children look forward to it each year. Parents also mention that the games are always fun, that kids “get a great work out without even knowing it,” and that campers “always seem to be good sports/show good sportsmanship,” which they see as a reflection of how the coaches run the camps.
