BrasArte Youth Programs is part of BrasArte, which was established in 2000 as a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization. The organization states that its mission is to preserve Brazilian culture through dance, music, culture, and connection. BrasArte offers high quality classes with local dance and music teachers of international caliber on a weekly basis. The founder is Conceição Damasceno, and the Artistic Director of BrasArte is Tainah Damasceno. BrasArte is described as one of the few arts and cultural organizations in California with an emphasis specifically on preserving the traditional dances and music of Brazil and has been bringing Brazilian culture to the San Francisco Bay Area for over 25 years. Its weekly youth programming and Camp Ere have introduced thousands of Bay Area children to Brazilian arts culture. Over 50% of youth in their community receive some level of financial aid through their scholarship program, which is described as extensive. BrasArte organizes tours and workshops with artists directly from Brazil, sponsors world class artists, and presents theater and festival performances, public school workshops, and master classes. Dance and music classes, performances, and educational programs at BrasArte are supported mostly through individual donations, with some foundation and government grants, and sponsor participation is described as vital to their mission. The organization focuses on cultural exchange between Brazil and the United States and provides events and activities that involve Bay Area residents with Brazilian roots and those interested in Brazilian traditions.
