About

BrasArte Youth Programs offers youth classes, camps, music classes, dance classes, and performances that include dance classes, workshops, live music shows, and festivals. The program also offers a cultural immersion camp called Camp Ere. Public school workshops and master classes are part of the activities, along with organizing tours and workshops with artists directly from Brazil.

BrasArte Youth Programs is led by BrasArte Founder Conceição Damasceno and BrasArte Artistic Director Tainah Damasceno. Ms. Damasceno is certified to teach Dunham technique. The mission of BrasArte Youth Programs is to preserve Brazilian culture through dance, music, culture, and connection. BrasArte is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization. Established in 2000, BrasArte has been bringing the best of Brazilian culture to the San Francisco Bay Area for over 25 years and has introduced thousands of Bay Area children to Brazilian arts culture through weekly youth programming and Camp Ere since 2000. Annual festivals help preserve and introduce Brazilian culture to a new generation, and both tours and festivals have included theater and festival performances, public school workshops, and master classes. Over 50% of youth in the community receive some level of financial aid through an extensive scholarship program. BrasArte is one of the few arts and cultural organizations in California with an emphasis specifically on preserving the traditional dances and music of Brazil, and it also offers classes with a West African focus and dance conditioning in addition to Brazilian arts. The organization focuses on cultural exchange between Brazil and the United States, has sponsored world-class artists such as Rosangela Silvestre, Marcelo Chocolate, Margareth Menezes, and Nildinha Fonseca, and states that participation from sponsors is vital to its mission to reclaim, preserve, and present the cultural legacy of Brazil in the United States. By sharing the cultural heritage of Brazil with varied communities throughout the Bay Area, BrasArte promotes a deeper understanding of South America’s largest country.
