BMuZ Summer Camp is a one-week, music-based summer camp where students take part in group warm-ups, all band rehearsals, sectionals, sectional rehearsals, and musical electives. Camp activities include music games, non-musical games, big bands, improvisation workshops, listening sessions, playing in a large string ensemble, playing in small chamber groups, and learning traditional, Irish, Scottish, and Bluegrass fiddle tunes.
• Ages: 10–15 years old
• Schedule: One-week sessions with half-day camps offered in morning and afternoon blocks
• Price: All half day camps are priced at $250 for the week, and signing up for both a morning and afternoon camp makes the total price $400
BMuZ Summer Camp includes several options: BMuZ Band Camp for grades 5–9 from 8:30am–12:00pm, BMuZ Jazz Camp for grades 5–9 from 1:00pm–4:30pm, BMuZ Strings Camp for grades 5–9 from 8:30am–12:00pm, BMuZ Fiddle Camp for grades 6–9 from 1:00pm–4:30pm, BMuZ Jazz Orchestra Camp for grades 6–9 from 1:00pm–4:30pm, and BMuZ Choir Camp for grades 5–9 from 8:30am–12:00pm. All half day camps are priced at $250 for the week, including Band, Jazz, Strings, Fiddle, Jazz Orchestra, and Choir camps.
BMuZ Summer Camp is taught by highly trained, motivated, and credentialed teachers. The BMuZ Fiddle Camp session is taught by Carlotta Jacobs, a member of the BUSD Visual and Performance Department. The leadership team includes Shannon Houston, Artistic Director and Orchestra Director, and Jonah Andreatta, Wind Ensemble Director.
The New Apollo Youth Symphony Orchestra, which runs BMuZ Summer Camp, is dedicated to reshaping music education and making sure to give that opportunity to young musicians of all backgrounds. Its goal is to create a community around the youth symphony that has a strong understanding of music, that is diverse in many ways, and that sets each student up to pursue any goal they strive for. New Apollo Youth Symphony Orchestra focuses on creating music ensembles consisting of orchestras, bands, and choirs for underprivileged students in the greater Bay Area community and aims to provide scholarships to students who are not financially able to take private lessons. Scholarships will be available to families in need for BMuZ Summer Camp. New Apollo Youth Symphony Orchestra is a registered 501(c)3.
