About
Dancing Paintbrush Studio Summer Art Camp offers drawing, painting with a focus on color, and projects featuring animals and imaginary creatures, people and faces, and landscapes, still life, and oceans. Camp days include lessons on color theory and famous artists in art history, and all art materials used are safe and non-toxic.
• Ages: 7–17 years old
• Schedule: One-day drop-in on June 5, followed by weekly sessions from June 8–12, June 15–19, June 22–26, June 29–July 3 (4-day week), July 6–10, July 13–17, July 20–24, July 27–31, August 3–7, and August 10–14, with optional beforecare from 8–9 am and aftercare from 3–5 pm (no aftercare on Fridays, camp ends at 3 pm)
• Price: Early Bird tuition before April 1 is $695 for artists ages 7–13 and $675 for counselors-in-training ages 14–17, siblings, and referrals; regular tuition after April 1 is $750 for artists ages 7–13 and $725 for counselors-in-training ages 14–17, siblings, and referrals; beforecare and aftercare are $25 per hour
The camp brings a variety of new materials and techniques with an emphasis on learning, creativity, and imagination, and each camp day includes structure and practice. Instructors demonstrate different methods and ways of making art, provide lessons on color theory and famous artists in art history, and host special guests to spark the creative process. The program encourages individual exploration of personal themes and interests, values working together and sharing ideas, and limits each summer camp session to 12–15 students so each student receives individual attention. The stated goal is to provide materials, structure, and guidance to spark creativity in each child, allow them to explore and investigate their own ideas, and have fun in the process, with a philosophy that emphasizes practice over product and avoids judgment, comparison, or criticism. The program identifies ages 7–13 as regular campers and ages 14–17 as counselors in training.
The aftercare program is facilitated by the staff of Afterschool University and is led by Michael Sanchez, the Director.
