Camp Galileo Berkeley is part of Camp Galileo, which began in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2002 and has operated for over 20 years. Camp Galileo’s curriculum is grounded in the Galileo Innovation Approach and is created by a year-round team of teachers, artists, makers, and engineers. The program serves kids in grades K–10 and combines STEAM exploration with outdoor fun, with fun traditions built into every day. Counselors in Training (CITs) are leaders at camp and engage in leadership development and camp mentorship, including devising Water Day stations, leading skits, planning flash mobs, and crafting flair. Campers take a nut-free snack break during the camp day.

Galileo operates award-winning summer camps and expanded learning programs at over 60 locations across Northern and Southern California, Chicagoland, Denver, and Seattle, serving 90+ communities and more than 570,000 young innovators, with over 49,000 scholarships awarded. Galileo consistently earns “Best Camp” community awards, and a Stanford Graduate School of Education study found that Galileo kids internalize collaboration, persistence, and resilience skills and apply them to other parts of their lives. Since 2002, Galileo has served over 600,000 campers at locations across the country. Galileo’s mission states that summer is a time for joyful, friend-filled fun and learning, and that every individual has the potential to become an innovator who can envision and create a better world, with a commitment to increasing access, valuing differences, and welcoming all. Galileo also works with like-minded organizations across its communities to enhance and extend opportunities for innovation education.

Parent feedback about Galileo includes reports that kids come home thinking more independently and deeply, enjoying counselors, projects, games, and activities, and looking forward to returning each summer. Parents describe kids having fun building things, making new friends, and staying engaged, and some note that their kids are still singing camp songs at home. Testimonials also mention camp as fun and inclusive, with kids coming home happy and chanting camp cheers, and describe it as a camp experience that builds community, includes amazing projects on the camp topic, fun games, and lots of silliness.
