Hearts Leap Beginnings - Infant & Toddler Program is part of the Hearts Leap Schools, which are a project of the International Child Resource Institute (ICRI), a non-profit organization. The program follows a pedagogical approach that includes The Heart Lens, a relationship-based program, and a child-centered, emergent curriculum that recognizes learning as coming from children’s play, imagination, and interests. Children in the program are provided safe spaces in which to take risks, explore new materials with all their senses, and engage in imaginative play.

Hearts Leap Schools were founded in 1990, with Hearts Leap Beginnings opening in 2018, alongside other locations including Hearts Leap School, Hearts Leap Kensington, and Hearts Leap Lakeview. The mission of Hearts Leap Schools is connected to ICRI’s dedication to promoting programs for children worldwide and to creating and nurturing a child-centered environment of support, success, and safety for each child and family in its community of lifelong learners. The program’s approach includes building strong connections between children, families, and the extended community, and incorporates anti-bias education goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Hearts Leap Schools state that experiences and activities in the environment emerge from children’s exploring, problem solving, and imaginative play, with teachers providing information, props, and opportunities that respond to children’s questions and interests. An online application is available for all Hearts Leap programs, and submitting an application reserves a child’s space on the waiting list for future openings. Hearts Leap Schools recognize that their schools sit on the ancestral and unceded land of the Chochenyo speaking Ohlone people, and they acknowledge the importance of this land to the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe and other descendants of the Verona Band, offering respect to Ohlone Elders and community members past and present.
