About

EDMO offers homework help, tutoring, outdoor recreation, mindfulness, meditation, enrichment activities, and hands-on arts and science programs. The program includes two immersive STEAM sessions and dynamic camp rallies, and emphasizes students making meaningful connections with staff.

• Schedule: Comprehensive Afterschool Programming (CASP) runs 180 days per school year; full-day summer programs deliver up to 9 hours of enriching, hands-on learning.

Founded in 2004, EDMO is a national award-winning 501(c)(3) education nonprofit on a mission to close the opportunity gap by providing transformative STEAM and SEL experiences beyond the classroom. Its afterschool programming runs 180 days per school year and uses STEAM and SEL curriculum developed in-house by a team of expert curriculum designers, implemented by highly trained staff. EDMO’s approach includes the EDMO Method, developed with the UC Berkeley Greater Good Science Center, which focuses on Self-Awareness, Problem-Solving, Advocacy, Collaboration, and Empathy (S.P.A.C.E.), and integrates STEAM and Social Emotional Learning through all elements of its programs, including a daily SEL-focused “Team Time” period. The organization offers year-round, out-of-classroom programming with hands-on STEAM exploration using fresh themes, and a multi-layered approach that combines STEAM and foreign languages with SEL, along with extended care options and healthy meals in summer programs. EDMO Co-founders are Eduardo Caballero and Sharon Mor, and the organization reports over 20 years of impact, over 155,000 kids engaged, and over 200 school partners.

EDMO is described as a national award-winning education nonprofit and has partnered with organizations such as the California Academy of Sciences, The Exploratorium, and the YMCA of Marin to help develop its curriculum design. EDMO partners with schools to provide summer camps and afterschool programs, engages community partners to bring offerings like recreation and theater, and has transitioned to a partnership model with school districts and other lead educational agencies to create equitable access to high-quality enrichment programs, working with over 200 school partners.

Testimonials from school and family partners note that EDMO has supported families financially impacted by COVID-19, focused on Social Emotional Learning and enrichment activities, and supported students’ transition back to the school year. Feedback from a school principal highlights students enjoying meaningful connections with staff and appreciation for the focus on SEL and STEAM. Family testimonials describe strong positive experiences with EDMO camps over many years and appreciation for the program from caregivers, including a business-owning single parent with limited finances.
