Founded in 2004, EDMO is a national award-winning 501(c)(3) education nonprofit. Its mission is to close the opportunity gap by providing transformative STEAM and SEL experiences beyond the classroom and to create pathways for lifelong success for kids, families, and communities. EDMO’s curriculum is developed in-house by a team of expert curriculum designers and implemented by highly trained staff members who are described as passionate about the EDMO mission and who educate by example. The organization uses The EDMO Method, developed with the UC Berkeley Greater Good Science Center, which focuses on Self-Awareness, Problem-Solving, Advocacy, Collaboration, and Empathy (S.P.A.C.E.), and integrates STEAM and Social Emotional Learning through all elements of its programs.

EDMO provides high-quality, year-round, out-of-classroom programming, including full-day summer programs with healthy meals and extended care options. The program offers hands-on STEAM exploration with changing themes, a daily SEL-focused “Team Time,” and an inclusive community where every kid is celebrated and supported. EDMO reports over 20 years of impact and more than 155,000 kids engaged.

EDMO partners with school districts, organizations, and local communities to provide equitable access to out-of-school learning for kids across the socio-economic spectrum, and it has worked with over 200 school partners. The organization also works with community partners to bring specialized offerings such as recreation and theater to its programs and has transitioned to a partnership model with school districts and other lead educational agencies. EDMO is led by co-founders Eduardo Caballero and Sharon Mor.

Parent and partner feedback notes that EDMO focuses on Social Emotional Learning and enrichment activities, that students enjoyed making meaningful connections with staff, and that the “camp vibe” was appreciated. Some families describe EDMO camps as their favorite, mention long-term positive experiences with caring and intelligent staff, and highlight the program as an important option for families with limited finances. One school partner notes that the program supported students whose families were financially impacted by COVID-19 and that it helped students transition back to the school year.
