About
Youth Programs is part of Wilderness Torah’s earth-based Jewish offerings for children and teens in Grades 1–12. These programs take place within a pluralistic, multigenerational community where youth, adults, and elders participate together in village life grounded in Jewish tradition. Within this setting, youth are mentored to discover their truth as part of an intergenerational village that emphasizes collaborative leadership, mutuality, celebration, and radical inclusivity.
• Ages: 6–17 years old
Wilderness Torah states that its mission is to promote healing, belonging, and resilience by awakening and celebrating earth-based Jewish traditions through inclusive and intergenerational village-building. In this broader community, youth are mentored, adults are initiated to steward that which is greater than themselves, and elders are honored for their life experience and earned wisdom. Wilderness Torah’s regional Bay Area village is the primary community served, while participants also join from across the country and internationally for retreats, festivals, and online programs. Wilderness Torah has joined forces with Adamah to create the Adamah SF Hub, through which Adamah SF continues Wilderness Torah’s Bay Area programs and hosts Adamah’s national initiatives locally, including the Jewish Youth Climate Movement for teens. One festival connected to this community, the Sukkot In-Gathering, includes a Hoshanah Rabah Rain Dance & Water Ritual with four co-creative tracks: Dance, Drum, Singer, and Altar Making, with participation in the rain dance ritual by invitation and not required, and with the option for attendees to opt out and spend time in unoccupied village tents during preparation. A Passover in the Desert attendee described their experience by saying, “This is how we were meant to live: In community, in prayer, in harmony with nature. In a world where we’ve wandered too far from our roots, I’m grateful to Wilderness Torah for providing a pathway home.”
