West Berkeley Fencing Club is a nonprofit organization founded in 2012. The club has a management and staff of certified coaches. The founder is Mark Headley, and staff members include Mark Headley, George Platt, Elizabeth Earls, Doug Nichols, and Cory Price. The club is guided by a volunteer board and supported by experienced coaches.
The mission of West Berkeley Fencing Club is to make the sport of fencing accessible and inclusive for people of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels, in a welcoming, community-driven environment where everyone can learn, train, and enjoy the sport together. The club is part of the West Berkeley Foundation for Community, a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing the Bay Area with an inclusive and positive environment for fencers of all levels and abilities. The Club offers cultural and community events that enrich the neighborhood and the broader Bay Area.
West Berkeley Fencing Club is home to the West Coast Fencing Archive. The West Coast Fencing Archive is a digital repository of stories, images, documents and media about fencers, masters and coaches, clubs and tournaments, and it was founded to preserve, promote and interpret the history of the sport of fencing on the west coast of the United States.
