LearnUp Centers 1:1 Reading Tutoring

LearnUp Centers Reading Tutoring offers reading tutoring that includes 1:1 tutoring, a Structured Phonics Training Workshop, and Structured Literacy curriculum training. The program uses decodable chapter books so students can practice new reading concepts within a storybook environment. Each tutoring session includes time using a tactile, multi-sensory magnetic board to actively teach phonics, and half of every tutoring session is spent reading books.

LearnUp Centers teaches struggling readers, with or without a diagnosis of dyslexia, to read in about half the time of other reading programs. Its curriculum integrates practices from Orton-Gillingham based programs, speech therapy, structured phonics, and research on the brain. LearnUp reports that in just 3 months of tutoring, the average student increases word fluency by more than 50%, gains over 44 words per minute in fluency, and jumps 2.0 grade levels in reading, and that on average students jump 2 reading grade levels in under 3–4 months of tutoring. LearnUp enrolls all year round and has tutors available to fit a child’s needs and schedule. LearnUp scholarships are on a sliding scale and are based on family need and the availability of scholarship funds. LearnUp is a nonprofit with a mission to reach and teach struggling readers in every community to read with confidence using its structured literacy program. According to one parent, LearnUp is efficient, gets strong results, and was less time intensive and costly than other programs that asked their family to commit 2–3 hours a day for several months.
