The Summer Program is staffed primarily by Little School teachers, with Little School alumni between 11–15 years old joining each group as volunteer assistants, and additional staff often being former Little School students who work as assistants for several years and are noted for their maturity and talent with children. The Little School states that it is committed to serving children with diverse developmental profiles, including children with identified special needs, and that it values diversity in many forms and is an inclusive and diverse school.
The Little School was founded in 1984 by Leslie Roffman and Tim Treadway, and the Executive Director is Kaile Thomas. The Little School’s mission states that children thrive in an environment where they are appreciated, respected, and supported, that strong, reciprocal relationships are essential to all learning and growth and are at the core of The Little School’s emphasis on social emotional development, and that the school upholds three core pillars as central tenets to its ethos: high quality early childhood education, inclusion, and diversity.
