Young Performers Theatre Theatre Arts Academy offers Let's Pretend!, Creative Drama, Presenting... The Show!, Presenting... The Show, Act II!, and Performance Theatre Workshop. Activities include storytelling, improvisational games, enacting stories, creating original characters, weaving characters into a story, writing original scripts with a playwright, acting, improvisation, character development, and a fully staged production.

Programs

• Let's Pretend! — 3 to 5 · Mondays 3:45 - 4:30; once a week for 10 weeks · $350 · Introduction to creative drama with storytelling and improvisational games.
• Creative Drama — 5 to 8 · Tuesdays 4:00 - 5:00 or Thursdays 4:00 - 5:00; once a week for 11 weeks · $400 · Students enact stories and create their own unique adventures; culminates with a performance for family and friends.
• Presenting... The Show! — 8 to 11 · Wednesdays 4:00 - 5:30; once a week for 11 weeks · $410 · Students create their own characters and collaboratively weave them into their own story.
• Presenting... The Show, Act II! — 10 to 14 · Fridays 4:30 - 6:00; once a week for 11 weeks · $410 · Based on a workshop model in which students create their own original scripts with a playwright.
• Performance Theatre Workshop — 8-15 · Monday-Friday 10:00 am-3:00 pm; one-week sessions · $590 per week · Instruction on acting, improvisation and character development; culminates in a fully staged production.

About the provider

Young Performers Theatre Theatre Arts Academy has been serving children since 1983. It offers on-site theatre classes at Bay Area schools and programming and outreach to schools and communities that lack access to theatre arts-based enrichment curricula. The program states that it aims to provide children in the Bay Area with the chance to tell their stories and participate in theatre, and it lists self-confidence, empathy, focus, teamwork, and creative thinking to solve problems among the skills it seeks to foster.

No trials are offered. Tuition includes a non-refundable $200 deposit. If a class is under-enrolled and cancelled, students may change to another class, receive a credit, or reimbursement in full. All class sales are final for summer camps. If a child cannot attend a class after payment is made, tuition may be applied toward any future class or summer camp, with no expiration date.
