About
Association of Kenpo Martial Artists (AKMA) offers martial arts training with a focus on Kenpo. Classes include reality-based self-defense, grappling, and takedowns. Classes are not overly ritualized and focus on teaching students to fight, not perform, and Shihan Marcello Aguinid personally leads the instruction for all classes.
• Ages: 2–18 years old
• Schedule: Classes are held six days a week at the dojo in Burbank.
• Price: Students are billed on a month-to-month basis and may cancel their membership at any time without penalty.
The AKMA dojo is described as a welcoming, nurturing and safe place to train, free from ego and negative energy, with zero tolerance for intimidation, bullying or ridicule. The program was founded in 2007 in Burbank, California by Shihan Marcello Aguinid and has taught the martial art of Kenpo to students ranging in age from 2 to 65 years old. Training at AKMA focuses on reality-based self-defense rather than sport competition, and students of AKMA do not learn how to score points and win trophies; they learn how to confront danger and, if necessary, fight to the best of their abilities in order to go home safely. The approach to Kenpo is trifold, including physical, mental, and spiritual fortitude. Shihan (Head Instructor) Marcello Aguinid is a U.S. Army veteran with over 20 years' experience in Kenpo and has also formally trained in Bahala na Escrima. Remote learning options are available, prospective students are invited to contact Shihan Aguinid for a free trial lesson, there is no pressure and no contracts to sign, and students may cancel their membership at any time without penalty.
