About
Cal Sports Camps – Volleyball offers volleyball training that includes 6v6 competition, game strategy, and position-specific skills for setters, hitters (pins or middles), and liberos. Campers can take part in sessions focused on advanced and beginner serving, attacking, blocking, ball control, passing, and setting fundamentals. The Golden Bear Experience session also includes a campus tour.
• Ages: 8–18 years old
• Schedule: Single- and multi-day sessions in June and July, with most daytime camps running from 9:00am–4:00pm or 9:00am–5:00pm and evening specialty sessions from 4:30pm–6:30pm
• Price: Due to high demand and limited capacity, prices are subject to increase as camp exceeds 25%/50%/75% capacity.
The Golden Bear Experience is for athletes with 4+ years of travel or open-level club experience in the graduating classes of 2027–2030 and is not intended for beginners or those seeking basic skill development. The Advanced Setter, Hitter, Libero & Combined program is for setters, hitters (pins or middles), and liberos with 2+ years of competitive club or high school experience, with position-specific skills in the morning and 6v6 play in the afternoon. The Advanced Serving session focuses on depths, strategic serving strategies, and jump top/float serves, and basic serving fundamentals are not taught in this session. The Beginner and Beginner Serving programs are recommended for players with no prior experience or less than a year of experience, with Beginner Serving focusing on basic overhand serving and not teaching underhand serving. The Intermediate program is recommended for players with about 2+ years of experience and covers skills across all areas of the game, while the Attacking & Blocking, Ball Control & Passing, and Setting sessions focus on basic fundamentals in those areas and are recommended for all positions and abilities.
Cal Sports Camps – Volleyball states that volleyball camps at UC Berkeley offer programs for players of all ability levels, with options for beginner, intermediate, and advanced players. Camps are run by Division I Cal Berkeley coaches, with instruction from Cal Volleyball’s coaching staff and players, and a low staff-to-camper ratio. Campers may be grouped by age, skill, or experience at the Director’s discretion. The mission statement for the program is: “Improve your game and have serious fun at Cal Volleyball Camps. Train like a Cal Volleyball Player and get better this summer!” Camp schedules and details, as well as all events, are subject to change, including changes based on NCAA. Last year, camp sessions sold out at this location.
Lunch is not provided for daytime sessions; campers may bring their own lunch or purchase pizza by the slice (cheese or pepperoni) for $2, along with snacks and drinks, with payment by cash only. Meals are not provided for evening specialty sessions. Check-in for all listed sessions is 30 minutes before the camp start time in the front lobby of Haas Pavilion. The Walter A. Haas, Jr. Pavilion is described as a state-of-the-art multipurpose sports facility and home of the University of California Golden Bears men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s gymnastics teams, and it now stands on what was once the Harmon Gym.
The leadership team includes Camp Director Jen Malcom, who is the Head Volleyball Coach at Cal Berkeley; Camp Coaches Andrew Sato, Alyssa Andreno, and Cole Murray, who are assistant coaches at Cal Berkeley; and Co-Director Meagan Owusu, who is the Cal Beach Volleyball Head Coach.
