About
Cal Volleyball Camps offers volleyball training that includes 6v6 competition, game strategy, and position-specific skills for setters, hitters (pins or middles), and liberos. Camp options also include advanced serving focused on depths, strategic serving strategies, and jump top/float serves, as well as a campus tour as part of certain sessions.
• Ages: 8–18 years old
• Schedule: Single-day and two-day camps on select dates in June and July, generally running 9:00am–4:00pm with a lunch break from 12:00pm–1:00pm
• Price: Pizza available for $2 per slice; prices are subject to increase as camp exceeds 25%/50%/75% capacity
Instruction is provided by Cal Volleyball’s coaching staff and players, with a low staff-to-camper ratio. Program options include beginner, intermediate, and advanced level camps, with campers possibly grouped by age, skill, or experience at the Camp Director’s discretion. The Golden Bear Experience is for athletes with 4 or more years of travel or open-level club experience and includes a “day in the life” of a Cal volleyball player and a campus tour. The Advanced Setter, Hitter, Libero & Combined program is for athletes with 2 or more years of competitive club or high school experience, and the Advanced Serving program focuses on advanced serving skills rather than basic serving fundamentals. The Beginner camp is open to girls and boys ages 8–13.
Jen Malcom, Head Volleyball Coach at Cal Berkeley, serves as Camp Director. Camp coaches include Andrew Sato, Alyssa Andreno, and Cole Murray, each listed as an assistant coach at Cal Berkeley. Lunch is not provided for the Golden Bear Experience, Advanced Setter/Hitter/Libero & Combined, or Beginner camps, and campers may bring their own lunch or purchase pizza, snacks, and drinks with cash. Meals are not provided for the Advanced Serving session. Parents or guardians may watch camp from upstairs if they are in the building before doors are closed, and a permission to leave form is required for campers using alternative transportation such as bus, BART, walking home, or going to another Cal Sports Camp. At check-out, parents or guardians are asked to provide the last two digits of the confirmation number to check out their child.
