Youth Development Programs include outdoor education, environmental education, and hands-on science exploration. Activities include therapeutic wilderness experiences, watershed education, live animal presentations, worm composting globes as a take-home project, and animal track molds as a take-home project. Live animal presentations feature owls, turkey vultures, and other native species, with STEM learning integrated with Bay Area ecosystem education.

Youth Development Programs are led by certified naturalists or guides and offer expert-led nature education. All programs are completely free and include meals, water, equipment, permits, and transportation when needed. Saved By Nature is a Bay Area environmental justice nonprofit founded by Richard Tejeda in 2018 and earned 501(c)(3) status in 2019. Its mission centers on connecting people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and abilities to the outdoors through transformative environmental education that promotes mental, physical, and spiritual healing in nature.
Saved By Nature operates throughout Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and San Mateo counties, serving thousands of community members annually through evidence-based programs designed to address the environmental equity gap. Youth programs have served over 6,900 young people through initiatives including the Summer Science Project, After School Field Trips, and the Alive Outside Adventure Series, while community programs have served over 5,200 community members. Youth Development Programs are multilingual, culturally responsive, and inclusive of people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and abilities. The Summer Science Project is a seven-week intensive program serving more than 800 youth annually and is a collaborative initiative with Valley Water, Wildlife Education Rehabilitation Center, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Garden to Table Silicon Valley, and Saved By Nature, delivered across seven Boys & Girls Clubhouses across the Bay Area.
