MEarth Summer Camps takes place at a 10-acre habitat that includes a LEED-certified culinary classroom and a 1-acre organic garden, where fresh produce is harvested for camp cooking activities. A local professional chef joins the Green Tweens Cooking Camp to cook a meal alongside campers and share culinary skills. MEarth states that its mission is to educate and inspire through environmental stewardship, and partial scholarships are available for summer camp. MEarth supports kids from Title I schools and underserved communities with financial assistance and works in partnership with schools and organizations throughout the county, including the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Monterey County, Stanford University’s Hopkins Marine Station, and the Recruitment in Science Education program of California State University at Monterey Bay. A MEarth garden volunteer describes enjoying hands-on support in the garden and notes the presence of an impressive vegetable garden and fruit trees.
