Watershed Education with the Santa Lucia Conservancy includes hands-on Nature days, Watershed Tours, California Wildlife Day activities, and virtual watershed tours. The program also offers virtual and Zoom classes and other outdoor education programs. Participants may take part in planting natives for riverbank restoration, an annual trash cleanup, and working with CRSA on fish rescues.

The Santa Lucia Conservancy has partnered with the Carmel River Watershed Conservancy (CRWC) to lead outdoor education programs, with CRWC helping create the curriculum and contributing transportation support while Santa Lucia carries out the implementation. Thus far this year, Santa Lucia Conservancy has taught 25 classes, twelve virtual/Zoom and 13 in person, and the remainder of the fall season will be almost entirely in person, with classes scheduled for almost every day through early December. Nine of the 25 classes have been from underserved schools in Salinas, Monterey Peninsula Unified, and charter schools, and the program has welcomed Mission Park Elementary 2nd graders from Salinas and plans to host Ord Terrace Elementary 4th graders from Seaside using CRWC funds for transportation. The Santa Lucia Conservancy provides watershed curriculum for environmental educators and buses to bring youth from Monterey County to participate in hands-on Nature days with the Santa Lucia Conservancy education program, California Wildlife Day, and the Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District, and an Annual Environmental Educators Summit is held each summer to discuss challenges and resources to support watershed education.
The mission of the Carmel River Watershed Conservancy (CRWC) is to protect and improve the health of the Carmel River Watershed for the benefit of its natural environment and the public. For 25 years the Carmel River Watershed Conservancy has been the voice of the river in policy forums, board meetings, and public debates. The CRWC Educators Resource Hub offers materials to illuminate the story of the Carmel River and support watershed learning. Science Uncorked is a monthly speaker series hosted by CRWC in partnership with Cal State Monterey Bay and Russell Joyce winery, held at the Russell Joyce tasting room, and these presentations are open to the public and cover topics such as the impact of dams on the river, desalination, and building climate resilience in the watershed.
