Elevé School of Dance is led by director Mrs. Claudia Valdes, who teaches ballet, jazz, and tap. The program reflects her long background in dance study, performance, and teaching.
• Schedule: Classes are offered Monday through Thursday from 4:00pm to 8:30pm, Friday from 3:00pm to 7:30pm, and Saturday from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
Mrs. Claudia Valdes began her dance studies at age 5 at the Gloria Campobello Dance School in Tijuana, B.C., and began teaching ballet, jazz, and tap there at age 17. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance in 2003 and was a professional ballerina for the Ballet del Noroeste de Mexico. She has taken dance seminars at PRO-DANZA, Centro de Promoción de la Danza in La Habana, Cuba, at the Escuela Superior de Danza y Música in Monterrey, N.L., Mexico, and in the United States. In 1999 she was invited to join the Minerva Tapia Dance Group (GDMT). In 2009 she was accepted as a member of the International Dance Council (CID-UNESCO), which is described as the official umbrella organization for all forms of dance in the world.
Her mission statement explains that dance is her passion, that she has been teaching dance for more than two decades, and that her experience has allowed her to bring that passion to her students, helping them discover their full potential and the gratification dance can provide. She states that experiencing her students’ progress and growth class by class through hard work, effort, and dedication is her greatest satisfaction. Through the Minerva Tapia Dance Group (GDMT), she has represented the group in competitions and in national and international festivals, including the XXVIII INBA-UAM Award in Mexico City, Festival de Danza Universitaria in Hermosillo, Sonora, Cuerpos en Transito Festival and Entijuanarte in Tijuana, B.C., Mix-Match Dance Festival in Los Angeles, International Dance Congress in Málaga, Spain, and Blue Grass State International Dance Festival in La Grange, Kentucky. She has also performed in Flagstaff, Arizona; Soho, New York; San Diego and Rancho Bernardo in California; and in Ensenada, Tecate, and Mexicali in Baja California, Mexico.
