About

Touchstone Youth Programs offers climbing, climbing instruction, and climbing camps, along with club teams for young climbers. The program includes a clear pathway of teams, including a development team, training team, and competition team.

• Ages: 7–18 years old
• Schedule: Programs run after school and during holiday breaks, including summer

Climbing Camps for ages 7–12 introduce new and returning climbers to the basics of climbing in a fun and safe environment. Kids Club for ages 7–11 and Youth Club for ages 12 and up practice once or twice a week. The Development Team meets 2 days per week, the Training Team meets 2–3 days per week, and the Competition Team meets 3 or more days per week.

The program’s mission states that coaches are committed to providing a supportive environment for young climbers of all levels to develop into lifelong climbers alongside a community of like-minded peers. All Team Touchstone coaches are SafeSport certified, live-scanned, and participate in ongoing anti-harassment and mandated reporter training. Touchstone is a public benefit corporation whose Corporate Charter is based on Environmental Stewardship, Being a Good Neighbor, Employee Development, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Exceptional Customer Support.

The Access to Climbing (ATC) Program offers discounts for Youth Climbing Camps to families receiving government assistance, and membership support is offered for Club Team and Team Touchstone monthly memberships to those experiencing significant financial instability. Touchstone Climbing owns and operates 18 climbing gyms across California, and Mission Cliffs was the city of San Francisco’s first climbing gym. Over three decades, Mission Cliffs has remained an industry leader.

Parent and member comments about Touchstone gyms mention friendly staff, a variety of climbing walls and routes, top roping, lead climbing, bouldering, changing routes, workout equipment, yoga classes, saunas, showers, and locker areas. Several testimonials describe the gyms as calm during the day, social in the evenings, and busy at peak times, with some noting that routes change regularly and that there are both challenging and easier climbs.
