Impact Activities Tennis and Pickleball Programs offers tennis and pickleball through lessons, programs, tournaments, ball machines, and events. Impact Activities manages and develops multiple tennis and pickleball facilities throughout the nation, and its facilities include retail shops in addition to on-court activities. In 2020, Impact Activities invested in adding pickleball courts to all of its facilities.
Impact Activities was established in 2011. Impact Activities has acquired contracts with multiple municipal tennis centers, including McLeland Tennis Center, Fretz Tennis Center, Samuell Grand Tennis Center, L.B. Houston Tennis Center, Hamilton Park Tennis Center, and Weeks Park Tennis Center. The Courts of McKinney, Texas, began as an 11-court facility and added 12 more courts in 2019, making it the largest outdoor tennis facility in the region.
Impact Activities states its mission as “IMPACTING COMMUNITIES THROUGH QUALITY MANAGED ACTIVITIES.” Joel Myers states that his mission is to create world-class tennis and pickleball experiences for players of all ages and skill levels, whether someone is stepping onto the court for the first time or training in a competitive environment.
Impact Activities manages multiple public tennis and pickleball centers across Texas and California and has worked closely with the City of Fort Worth, the City of Dallas, and the City of Wichita Falls through facility contracts. Joel Myers works closely with the City of Coronado on long-term planning and facility improvements to support sustainable program growth and to serve community needs. Impact Activities received the 2018 USPTA National Community Service Award and the 2018 USPTA Texas Lessons for Life community service award. In 2013, Impact Activities received a Community Service Award for the “Hitting The Books” underprivileged kids program and has coached over 15,000 children for nonprofit organizations in North Texas from 2012 to the present. In 2013, Impact Activities coached 200 school teachers on how to coach their 25,000 students in North Texas.
Impact Activities has received multiple awards, including the 2012 USTA Outstanding Large Facility Award and the 2012 USTA No. 1 Nationally Featured Facility Award, both received at the US Open with the Mayor of McKinney, Brian Loughmiller. Joel Myers serves as General Manager and Director of Racket Sports at Impact Activities – Coronado and is described as an RSPA Elite Professional, 2021 USPTA San Diego Pro of the Year, 2026 SDDTA Coach of the Year, three-time NAIA Collegiate All-American, and 2011 NAIA Player of the Year, and has been featured on Tennis Channel’s “1 Minute Clinics.” Angelica Gavaldon is a Tennis Professional who became the best female tennis player in Mexican history, represented Mexico in the Barcelona and Atlanta Olympics, and won Coach of the Year 2014 in San Diego, California. Bryan Conway is a Tennis Professional and an RSPA elite tennis and pickleball professional who has coached on the Women’s professional tennis circuit (WTA), worked with college All-Americans and nationally ranked juniors, played on the USTA and European Professional circuit, and is on the Advisory Staff with Head Sports Inc. Laila Romero has been an Elite USPTA Certified Tennis Coach for 10 years, is a certified Cardio Tennis instructor, a USTA 10 and Under Recreational Coach, and a certified Mental Toughness Specialist by the Human Performance Institute; she was ranked as high as 11th in the nation in 2008 in NCAA doubles, was on the PAC-10 All Academic Team, was a PAC-10 doubles finalist in 2009, received the Arthur Ashe Award for Academic and Athletic Excellence, played Federation Cup for Mexico in 2011, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Arizona State University. Patrick Huls received his USPTA Professional status in 2017. Phil Hopkins has a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s degree in biomechanics with his thesis on the tennis serve, has been a tennis pro since 1976, and has coached and taught teams and classes at the elementary, secondary, and college levels.
The leadership team includes Joel Myers as General Manager and Director of Rackets and Matt Hanlin, who is associated with Impact Activities and is described as a former practice partner to Serena and Venus Williams, an All-American at the University of Washington, the school’s winningest player of all time, and a top #400 ATP world player. In 2016, Matt Hanlin was elected as the President of the Dallas Professional Tennis Association.
