SOCAL Soccer League states that it is dedicated to providing a competitive and safe environment for youth soccer players across Southern California and supports player development, sportsmanship, and teamwork while maintaining high standards for conduct on and off the field. The league represents over 180 member clubs and more than 4,600 teams and is sanctioned by US Club Soccer, which also sanctions the member club tournaments that SOCAL promotes. SOCAL Soccer League describes itself as the largest youth competitive soccer league in the United States and offers premier programs and seasonal league circuits for boys and girls teams from U7 to U19.
The league’s levels of play include Flight 1, Flight 2, Flight 3, and Flight 4, with Flight 1 including promotion and relegation opportunities with the NPL and the possibility of playing outside a team’s geographic area. Flight 2 includes geographically scheduled matches and participation in the SOCAL State Cup, Flight 3 offers a lower level of competition with local city or county matches and optional SOCAL State Cup participation, and Flight 4 is described as bridging the gap between recreational and competitive play with community-based scheduling and optional SOCAL State Cup participation. Participation in the SOCAL State Cup can qualify teams for the US Club Soccer National Cup Finals in Denver, Colorado, in July.
