About
Coastal Children's Learning Center offers a play-based, learn-through-play developmental program that includes activities such as Soccer Shots, Peewee Martial Arts, Gymnastics, morning circle time, art, building blocks, reading corner time, outdoor play, planting seeds, and garden area and outdoor classroom time. The program also includes kindergarten readiness with math and phonetics programs, with no screen time during the day. Children have the same teachers every day, and teachers become facilitators to problem solving in each child’s world.
• Ages: 1–6 years old
• Schedule: Open Monday–Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with year-round programs and enrollment
• Price: Please email or call the center for tuition pricing specific to your child's age and schedule needs.
Coastal Children's Learning Center has spacious classrooms equipped with age-appropriate materials and resources and four outdoor play areas, including a large blacktop and a garden area, and also uses outdoor classroom time. The program is a licensed child care agency in Costa Mesa inspected regularly by the state of California, is licensed for 39 children, and maintains better teacher-to-child ratios than state requirements, with a 1:6 ratio for preschool-age children. Four classrooms are divided by age. Morning and afternoon snacks consist of fresh fruits and vegetables with no jars, pouches, or cans and entirely nut-free options, new foods are introduced quarterly with new fruits and vegetables highlighted, parents provide lunch, and the program covers breakfast if children are dropped off early and snacks throughout the day. There are no extra fees if parents are running ten minutes late.
All teachers are highly qualified and experienced in early childhood education, have real training in early childhood education, and some teachers are trained specifically for the 18 months age group. Director Katrina Chanbona has led Coastal since 2003, has over 30 years of experience in child care, and keeps tabs on the newest trainings and courses to stay current. Coastal Children's Learning Center has been part of the Costa Mesa community since 2015 and serves families from South Coast Metro, Eastside Costa Mesa, Westside Costa Mesa, Mesa Verde, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Santa Ana, Eastside, College Park, and surrounding neighborhoods.
The program’s stated goal is to nurture and encourage each child to develop socially, cognitively, physically, creatively, and emotionally in their own unique way and at their own pace. The mission statement notes that while academics are valued, socialization and emotional well-being are described as essential for children in today's world, and that the program strives to give each child tools to navigate big and small feelings, have self-respect, respect for people around them, and respect for their environment. The mission further states that Coastal Kids are intended to leave this chapter of their lives knowing and showing kindness and being prepared to navigate their personal and educational futures.
