About

Costa Mesa AYSO Region 120 Youth Soccer Programs offers youth soccer through several specific program options, including the Playground (4U) Program, the Schoolyard (5U) Program, and the CORE (6U–19U) Program. The program also includes EPIC/Special Needs soccer, EXTRA, All Stars, referee training, and coaching opportunities.

The program follows the AYSO mission statement of “Providing world class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives.” It operates within a 100% volunteer-run organization and includes many volunteer roles such as uniforms, fields, equipment, program managers, event positions, administration, marketing, public relations, communications, team volunteers, coaching-related positions, referee-related positions, and additional area, section, and national positions. AYSO is known for its innovative coaching program and comprehensive, realistic training model for volunteer parent coaches, as well as a robust referee program with comprehensive and practical training for officials. AYSO’s stated philosophies are Balanced Teams, Everyone Plays, Good Sportsmanship, Player Development, Open Registration, and Positive Coaching. The region’s leadership team includes Imelda Valdivia as Regional Commissioner and Registrar, Vince Rodriguez as Coach Admin, Chris Raymond as Referee Admin, and Anne McEligot as CVPA. The organization notes that no pets are allowed at practices or games. The broader AYSO organization has community partnerships that include BEEUP Snacks as the Official Fruit Snack Partner for the 2025–2026 season, Chicago Public Schools, the US Center for Mental Health & Sport, and the Northland Sports Alliance, and it supports U.S. Soccer to improve SafeSport. AYSO has also been associated with the Lancaster National Soccer Center hosting the AYSO National Open Cup 2017, and Michael Karon, President of AYSO, received the Stack Leadership Award for his impact in the world of sports volunteering.
