• Price: $175
Junior American Basketball (JAB) is a nonprofit youth basketball league for 3rd–8th graders based in Costa Mesa, CA, and is described as the premier youth basketball league in Costa Mesa. The league is structured into Division 1 (7th and 8th grades), Division 2 (5th and 6th grades), and Division 3 (3rd and 4th grades). Each player receives a t-shirt uniform, and players play at least half of each game. Games use CIF-Certified Officials and stats keepers, with trophies for 1st and 2nd place teams and plaques for league stats leaders. The program has high expectations of sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for both athletes and parents, and emphasizes that it is a community where everyone is there for every kid, not just their own. The league is led by Brian Beerbower, who is also known in the community as Mr. Dude. One JAB parent reports that their son looks forward to playing every season, enjoys finding out which friends he will play with and against, has learned a lot and grown as a player, finds the league fun, supportive, and positive, and that their family has developed great relationships through JAB, with parents also enjoying the experience.
