United Studios of Self Defense Costa Mesa

United Studios of Self Defense Costa Mesa offers martial arts and karate classes that include self defense training, general defense safety, and weapons training. Classes take place in a dojo setting and follow the Kempo system, which blends the power of Japanese Karate with the fluidity of Shaolin Kung Fu. Kempo at this program is described as the first true mixed martial art, presented as an adaptable system that forms to the practitioner and is described as a living, breathing martial art that is constantly honed and refined to reflect modern day needs. The program offers age-specific group classes, personalized instruction, fun and energetic classes for ages 3–5 focused on essential skills and personal character, kids classes focused on self esteem and character building through the martial arts, teens classes equipping adolescents and young adults to handle the rigors of the modern world, and adults classes where adults of all abilities unlock their potential through the power of Karate and community. New students receive the first lesson free.

United Studios of Self Defense Costa Mesa has been serving Costa Mesa since 2013. The owner and chief instructor is Jessica Genadry, and another instructor is Matthew Genadry. Jessica Genadry is a third-degree black belt with over 15 years of martial arts experience and a lifetime spent in the USSD system, earned her 1st-degree black belt at the Shaolin Temple in 2018, advanced to 3rd-degree at Japan’s Nippon Budokan in 2025, and has seven years of hands-on teaching experience. USSD Costa Mesa states that it is on a mission to uplift and empower. The program is involved in its beachside community through enriching after-school programs and by bringing martial arts energy to city fairs and community events.
