The church states its vision as “Everything for the Glory of God” and its mission as being a church family devoted to making disciples of Jesus Christ. It states that it loves Jesus, God’s Word, and one another and is bringing Jesus’ message of grace, truth, and compassion to Silicon Valley and to the world, and it describes identity, family, purpose, and sacrifice markers that include praying, reading the Bible, worshiping and serving with a church family, sharing Jesus’ love, and putting Jesus first in managing money, time, and possessions. Joy of the Lord Ministries (JOTL), founded in 1991, is described as more than a Christ-centered 12-step recovery meeting and is called a safe and anonymous family, with many attendees coming from a variety of 12-step backgrounds since its founding.

Community involvement includes hosting the CityTeam Mobile Pantry food distribution event serving over 450 families, preparing and serving monthly meals to guests at JW House, which provides food, housing, and comfort to family members of long-term Kaiser patients, and filling “Blessing Bags” with soap, shampoo, socks, hand sanitizer, pocket Bibles, and an encouraging note for the unhoused. CityTeam requests that volunteers dress modestly in long pants, covered shoulders, and closed-toe shoes, avoid yoga pants and crop tops, and wear an Abundant Life Assembly of God T-shirt if they have one or contact Lay Hooi to get one, and volunteers are instructed not to bring valuables and must be live-scanned before serving. Minors aged 14–17 are welcome at the CityTeam Mobile Pantry if accompanied by an adult chaperone.
