About
Champions is a program that operates under the mission that it is a safe, healthy place for each child to thrive. The program offers year-round learning environments that spark wonder in children. Champions also offers a seasonal option called Champ Camp Great Outdoors, and summer camp enrollment for this camp is open for children who attend.
• Ages: 5–12 years old
Champions follows local health department guidelines and the guidance of the schools where it operates. Only authorized staff and families may enter each site, and all children must be signed in and out on a paper-based roster and/or computer system, with only pre-approved people with photo identification allowed to pick up a child. All sites include smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, and staff are regularly trained on safety measures related to field trips or off-site activities, with family permission required before a child participates. All outdoor play is supervised and takes place only in outdoor play spaces that are described as safe and secure at the school or program location. The program has strict policies for administering medication, requires a doctor’s note for any medication for children under the age of 2, and has an emergency evacuation plan at each site that is tested frequently, with an emergency plan and list of procedures posted in each classroom and a National Support Center crisis team that supports each center during and after emergencies.
Teachers and staff at Champions undergo extensive training on health and safety practices, including pandemic-response protocols. Staff and teachers are trained in first aid and CPR, trained in child development, early childhood education, or a related field, and have criminal background checks conducted. Champions sites are cleaned daily with safe, non-toxic cleaning products, with high-touch items and surfaces sanitized throughout the day, cleaning supplies locked out of children’s reach, and staff and students practicing frequent hand washing. At most sites, breakfast, lunch, and snacks are offered, and in sites that provide meal service, the menu satisfies all applicable federal and state nutrition guidelines and includes a variety of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and calcium-rich foods.
