About

Champions offers year-round learning environments and before- and after-school care, along with care during summer, winter, and spring breaks. The program also offers a summer option called Champ Camp Great Outdoors. Most sites serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks that follow applicable federal and state nutrition guidelines, and some sites may limit certain foods to accommodate children with food allergies. Only authorized staff and families may enter program sites, and all children must be signed in and out using a paper-based roster and/or computer system, with written authorization on file before a child is released to anyone.

• Schedule: Programs include before- and after-school care, plus care during summer, winter, and spring breaks

Teachers and staff at Champions are trained in child development, early childhood education, or a related field, and they receive extensive training on health and safety practices, including pandemic-response protocols. Staff and teachers are trained in first aid and CPR, and criminal background checks are conducted on staff. Champions states that education and development are important, and that the safety, security, and health of each child is the program’s top priority. Champions follows local health department guidelines and the guidance of the schools where they operate to care for students, families, and communities.

Champions has earned Corporate Accreditation from Cognia, and the organization notes this accreditation at the corporate level. All sites include smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, cleaning supplies are locked out of children’s reach, and outdoor play is supervised and held only in outdoor spaces that are described as safe and secure at the school or program location. Each site has an emergency evacuation plan that is tested frequently, and an emergency plan with procedures is posted in each classroom. The National Support Center maintains a crisis team that supports each center during and after emergencies, and if a center must temporarily close, this team works with center management to update families and staff about reopening.

Only pre-approved people with photo identification may pick up a child from Champions, and a child is not released to any emergency contact younger than 18 unless that person is the legal parent or guardian. Families are asked not to post photos or videos online that show children other than their own. Staff and students practice frequent hand washing. Staff receive regular training on safety measures for field trips or off-site activities, and families must give permission before a child joins any field trip or off-site activity.

For medications, a doctor’s note is required for any prescription or over-the-counter medication for a child under 2 years old. To allow Champions staff to give prescription or non-prescription medications or apply topical non-prescription medications, families must complete a form provided at the site.
