About
The Dance Studio offers dance and ballet classes. Classes take place at The Dance Studio with a limited number of students per class and instruction from highly qualified instructors.
• Ages: 4–16 years old
The Dance Studio is led by Artistic Director and founder Debbie Wu, with instruction also provided by guest instructor Bih-Tau Sung and instructors Aichin Lo, Suzy Lee, Grace Lu, Naomi Maeda, and Monica Chen. The studio’s mission states that it aims to create an environment where kids can experience and enjoy dancing, with the belief that not everyone will become a professional dancer but that everyone in the studio can be a super star. The mission also states that the studio limits the number of students per class so each student receives more attention from highly qualified instructors, and that instructors are expected to choreograph unique dance routines for students during regular class sessions. According to the mission statement, this approach is combined with founder Debbie Wu’s patience, positivity, and high expectations.
One parent, Te-Chen H, states that the studio strikes a balance between skills and creativity, and reports that a child who started at age 4 was able at age 9 to create a four-minute dance routine, also noting that in this studio everyone can be a star in class recitals. Another parent, Heather Liu, reports that all four of her daughters have attended since they were 4 or 5, describes the teachers as friendly and skillful, and notes that director Debbie Wu arranged group and private lessons around the daughters’ national fencing training and travel schedules; this parent also notes that all performance choreographies are created by the studio’s teachers and mentions a special ballet skit titled “Sisters” created for her daughters. A student, Alicia Chuang, reports that she attended to improve dance skills for color guard, describes receiving constructive feedback and encouragement, and states that she saw tremendous improvement in her basics, accuracy, ability to learn new choreography, and posture.
