About
Quest Therapeutic Camps offers an intensive summer program and school-year afterschool programs that combine recreational and therapeutic activities, using play as the focus of intervention by experienced, well trained counselors. Campers work on individualized goals that are established by the camper, parents, and staff, and they earn praise and “points” that can be used at a weekly store. Campers are assigned to groups based on age, gender, and functional level, and each group is directed by three counselors who lead group therapy with specially developed hands-on therapy activities and discussion.
• Schedule: Intensive 6-week, 30 hours/week summer program from 6/15/26–7/24/26; afterschool program runs 30 weeks at 2 hours/week, with sessions operating 4–6 pm on Mondays and Thursdays.
The program’s 6-week summer session has been the subject of three research studies that demonstrated a strong treatment effect with significant progress in emotional and social functioning. The afterschool programs operate throughout the school year in three 10-week sessions that provide a holistic approach to mental health with a focus on coping mechanisms and therapeutic activities. Not all Quest campers are ESY students, and all children with mild to moderate emotional and social issues are welcome to attend.
Quest Therapeutic Camps was founded by Robert Field, PhD, a CA Licensed Psychologist (PSY 5705) who opened his private practice specializing in work with children and adolescents in 1978. Summer staff includes five therapists with at least a master’s degree in counseling, and many counselor staff members are working on graduate training in counseling or have significant experience with children. The program notes that few programs have the same combination of mental health professionals and counselor staff.
Quest is vendorized by the Regional Center of the East Bay and is an approved ESY program. Quest’s evidence-based program may qualify for reimbursement and ABA funding, and the program works closely with school districts to provide a unique individualized program for each camper. Partial scholarships are available through support from the Autistic Spectrum Disorder Foundation.
One parent stated, “Quest keeps my kid engaged, and all the other programs we've tried have failed to do that.”
