The instructor’s mission statement is: “I make functional pottery that invites touch, interaction and every-day use.” Community involvement includes bringing clay classes to several local elementary schools, funded by the Davis Schools Arts Foundation. Locally in Davis, CA, this work and pottery can be found at Cloud Forest Cafe, Three Ladies Cafe, Redwood Barn Nursery, Davis Food Coop, and Pence Gallery. The program features functional pottery for table and home, with clean lines, understated glaze colors, and Japanese-inspired stamp designs, and includes Adaptive Pottery co-designed with individuals with hand dexterity issues and movement disorders. Projects encompass both two-dimensional and three-dimensional work, and the clay work requires both hands, which means that it makes both sides of the brain talk to each other.
