About
Diamond Bar Community Preschool offers activities such as art, math, science, language activities, dramatic play, and building with blocks. Children participate in dressing up in costumes and role-playing, creating colorful pieces of art, and enjoying a story with a teacher or helping parent. The program also includes singing and dancing as part of the daily experience.
• Schedule: The school year runs from September through June.
Diamond Bar Community Preschool was founded in February 1966. It is a non-profit, parent participation preschool where parents assist a professional teacher in the classroom on a rotating basis two to six days per month, contribute to an assigned committee, and participate in fundraising and housekeeping activities. The program describes itself as a child-centered program with a balance of self-initiated and guided, group and individual, active and quiet, and fine and gross-motor experiences, supported by well equipped, age-appropriate classrooms. Materials include carefully chosen open-ended toys, books, puzzles, blocks of many shapes and sizes, dress up clothes, and dramatic play equipment. With 7 working parents and two credentialed teachers, the school maintains a 4:1 ratio of students to teacher and a low child-to-staff ratio. The school is licensed by the California Department of Social Services and is a member of the San Gabriel Valley Council (SGVC) and the California Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools (CCPPNS), which focus on mutual aid and exchange of information for co-ops and their members. A virtual tour is available for families who want to see the campus and classrooms.
The mission of Diamond Bar Community Preschool is stated as, “Parents and teachers working together to build a foundation for life long learning,” and, “The objective of our school is to create and maintain a safe, nurturing environment of highest quality, where children and families learn together.” The leadership team includes Director/Teacher Mitzie Jessiman, Teacher Ashley Ortiz, President Anita Moran, Treasurer Jenny Mejia, and Ways and Means chair Jennifer Saur. Director/Teacher Mitzie Jessiman states, “Teaching is my life. It is such a rewarding job. Each child that comes my way is a unique individual and it is my mission to provide them with a place to grow and learn intellectually and socially, while developing a high level of self-confidence. I am proud to help build our future!” Teacher Ashley Ortiz states, “I love working with preschool-aged children because I get to help them grow, learn, and explore the world around them. Watching their curiosity blossom and their confidence build is such a joy. I feel grateful every day to be part of their early learning journey.”
