Encinitas Fencing Academy offers fencing that includes warmup, group instruction, bouting practice, and private lessons. Classes follow a set daily structure that moves from warmup to group instruction and then to bouting practice.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Classes run Monday through Thursday from 6:00pm to 8:30pm, holidays excepted
Encinitas Fencing Academy is led by coaches David “Lucky” Polakoski and Aaron Kandlik. Coach Aaron Kandlik is a Level 4 Coach certified by the USA Fencing Coaches College in all three fencing disciplines. He has also been a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a Level 1 Weightlifting coach, and he holds a BFA in Studio Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The program states that it is dedicated not only to the development of athletes, but the development of individuals and community. The academy notes that fencing currently has one of the lowest injury rates of any Olympic sport and describes fencing as a low-impact and low-contact sport that is suited to both older and younger athletes. It also states that fencing at Encinitas Fencing Academy includes learning how to compete, how to grow, how to learn, and making friends, and that fencing strives to be inclusive and welcomes all to participate in their chosen events.
