About
Positive Action Community Theatre Improv Theatre Workshops offers in-person and online improvisational theatre workshops, including Joy of Improv workshops, virtual improv/acting workshops, and improv games tailored for online use. Participants study and express improv theatre, create a play from improvisational theatre, and perform a play, with performance opportunities that can include creating and performing theatre events. Some workshops include reading in character from popular movie scripts and on-the-job training as actors and as teachers, and the organization has recently started using improvisational theatre to help people with autism find jobs and develop careers.
• Ages: 13–18 years old
• Schedule: Workshops are offered in 6-week, 8-week, and 16-week series, with ongoing virtual improv/acting workshops for teens and young adults with autism
• Price: Sliding scale tuition and scholarships are available if needed, and in-person improvisational theatre workshops are offered at no cost
Positive Action Community Theatre (PACT) opened its doors in May 2008 and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. PACT’s mission is “to empower individuals and create community through the performing arts.” The organization offers in-person and online improvisational theatre workshops and performance opportunities for people with autism and other developmental disabilities, and programs are designed to serve people with autism, but everyone is welcome to attend. Workshops include individuals with disabilities and volunteers who act as peer mentors, and they encourage a feeling of equality by not pointing out volunteers or discussing anyone’s differences. Those most served by the programs are teens and young adults with high functioning autism, and virtual workshops serve people who are unable to attend in-person workshops. The Summer 2026 Joy of Improv workshops are led by three young adults with autism, and workshops may be recorded and edited into episodes of a “Joy of Improv TV Series” for people isolated by their disabilities, contingent on a grant.
The PACTHOUSE PLAYERS Theatre Troupe creates and performs theatre events, previously at local schools and community centers and currently online, and PACT has provided workshops and teacher trainings at local community centers and schools. Co-founders are Kathryn Campion and William Simonson, and the lead workshop director and trainer is Wil Fisher, M.A., Applied Theatre, with Kathryn Campion serving as the contact person at the PACT office. If closed captioning, sign language interpretation, additional supports, or information about accessibility is needed, people can contact PACT, and Spanish translation of website information is available upon email request.
