About

After School Hoops focuses on basketball fundamentals through organized drills and games that incorporate dribbling, shooting, passing, rebounding, and defense. Each class begins with a warmup and then divides into stations to work on specific basketball fundamentals. Every class ends with a 30-minute scrimmage so students can immediately apply what they have practiced in a semi-competitive setting.

After School Hoops is Foster City's youth basketball program for boys and girls ages 7–13 and operates in partnership with Foster City Parks & Recreation. Joe Kaiser founded After School Hoops in 2017 to provide basketball drills and instruction to Foster City’s youth, and during the day he is a Fantasy Sports Editor for ESPN. The coaching staff includes Barry Delfin, an active member of the Foster City youth sports community with experience coaching Foster City Little League and Bowditch Middle School basketball; Julian Delfin, a freshman at West Valley College who played shortstop at San Mateo High and basketball at Bowditch Middle School under his father Barry; Eddie Zamora, a freshman at Serra High School who began coaching in fall 2023 after aging out of After School Hoops as a player; and Benjamin Delfin, a sophomore at San Mateo High School who has been coaching for over a year after playing in the program for several sessions and previously competing as a Foster City Little League District baseball player.

Parents have shared that their children have learned fundamental basketball skills such as shooting and defense through drills in the program and have noted ongoing participation over multiple years. One parent reported that techniques learned in After School Hoops helped their child make a middle school team. Other parents described their children starting with little or no basketball experience and later showing progress in skill level and confidence, and several expressed appreciation for Coach Joe and the After School Hoops coaching staff.
