• Ages: 7–18 years old
• Schedule: Class options on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, with separate beginner, basics, intermediate/advanced, and advanced/open mat practice times
Fremont Shotokan Karate was founded in 2006 by Bernardo Mercado Sensei and Harry Imamura Sensei. The program has three dedicated instructors with over 80 years of training experience between them. After the dojo closed in 2020 due to covid restrictions and the sale of its building, a devoted group of karateka continued training in the park with Bernardo Mercado Sensei and Talila Golan Senpai. Bernardo Sensei passed away in a car accident in December 2022.
The mission of Fremont Shotokan Karate is to train students in traditional karate as a self-defense system that also enhances self-control, concentration skills, physical and mental fitness, stress reduction, and increased confidence. The program is dedicated to teaching traditional Shotokan Karate and keeping training simple, rigorous, and practical, while providing a challenging and positive experience for all students. All that is stated as needed for participation is a positive attitude, commitment, and discipline to succeed.
Fremont Shotokan Karate shares its dojo with Tri City Aikido and recommends Anthony Campagna Sensei and his students for those interested in learning more about the art of Aikido.
