King's Land Chess Education Center offers weekly group classes, small group lessons, private lessons, online classes, chess camps, intensive training camps, and the GATE Program (formerly KLC Team USA Class). The program also runs USCF-rated tournaments, including a K-12 Blitz Rated Open tournament with sections for different rating levels and a time control of G/5 + 3 with a minimum of 4 rounds. As part of its 13th Anniversary K-12 Blitz Rated Open, the program includes cash prizes, raffle prizes for each section, and more than $3,500 in scholarships.

Founded in 2012, King's Land Chess Education Center has trained thousands of young players over more than 11 years. Its mission statements include “King’s Land Chess – Empowering young minds through the art of chess since 2012,” “Chess for World, Wisdom for Life,” and “Chess for the World. Wisdom for Life,” with a stated goal of raising not only chess champions, but confident, capable young people ready to thrive in the world. The program follows a comprehensive 10-level curriculum from New Beginner to Grandmaster Level, with systematic and level-appropriate training offered through both online and in-person formats.
The leadership team includes Coach WFM Kiki Chen, KLC Founder and Main Coach, who is a Women FIDE Master, FIDE Trainer, FIDE Trainer Seminar Instructor, USCF Tournament Director, and National Champion Coach. Cofounder Coach Leo Liu is a FIDE National Instructor, USCF Tournament Director, and Advanced Level coach. The coaching team also includes Coach GM Wang Yue, Coach GM Bu Xiangzhi, Coach Zhihua Liang (KLC Master Coach, WIM, FIDE Trainer, International Arbiter, with over 30 years of coaching experience), and Coach IM Ronald Cusi (KLC Master Coach, IM-elect, FIDE Rating 2373, with over 30 years of coaching experience). The broader staff credentials include a Woman FIDE Master, FIDE Trainer, International Arbiter, IM-elect, FIDE National Instructor, USCF Tournament Director, National Champion Coach, FIDE rating 2140, USCF National Coach, and over 30 years of coaching experience.
King’s Land Chess Education Center is a FIDE Gold Award Chess School and has been named among the world’s top chess schools, and is one of the first institutions in the United States to receive this highest international honor. The FIDE Gold School Award represents the highest level of certification granted by FIDE to leading chess education institutions worldwide. KLC students have earned many distinctions, including over 20 students qualifying for Team USA at the World Youth/Cadets Championship (with 3 selected as official representatives), one student placing 3rd in the World Youth Championship, and two students becoming Pan-American Youth Chess Champions. Several students have won titles at the North American Youth Chess Championship, many have become National Champions across various age groups, multiple students have placed in the U.S. Top 20, and in the US August 2022 Top Player list, KLC students are ranked No.1 and No.2 in several age groups. Student titles include 1 FIDE Master (FM), 1 Woman FIDE Master (WFM), 3 National Masters (NM), 2 Woman Candidate Masters (WCM), and 2 Candidate Masters (CM). KLC students also won a National Champion title and 18 medals at the K-12 National Grade Level Championship. Coach Kiki Chen received an education contribution award from the Walnut Valley Unified School District in California in September 2015.
The program highlights character development through chess, including discipline, patience, focus, resilience, leadership, holistic growth opportunities, strong team spirit, and community focus, and emphasizes building critical thinking skills, emotional resilience, and the ability to solve real-world challenges through efficient, high-impact teaching strategies. Its professional coaching team includes National Masters, FIDE Trainers, and international champions, and group lessons are structured to provide the same level of quality and personal attention as private lessons.
As part of its community involvement, King’s Land Chess Education Center hosts a 13th Anniversary celebration and annual community sharing event on Monday, January 19, 2026, at both campuses, described as more than a competition. During this event, they celebrate growth, effort, and achievement through chess, reflect on KLC’s growth over the past year, introduce their programs and long-term development pathways, share the KLC story and educational philosophy, hold raffle draws, present scholarships, and honor Outstanding Students of the Year, with all students, families, and friends warmly invited to join.
