About
Field Trip Programs offers standards-based school tours that can be docent-guided or self-guided. Students can take part in Nature’s Design, a multiple-visit ecology program for 7th grade based on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and Adventures in Writing with Jack London, which is designed around the Common Core standards for language arts and literacy for elementary schools. The program also includes a self-guided school tour that features a guided walk to explore examples of Jack London’s agricultural innovations.
Tour leaders are a knowledgeable team of trained docents. The organization behind the park, Jack London Park Partners, emerged during a budgetary crisis in 2012 which would have shuttered many state parks. Its mission states that it believes in the power of learning through experience and that first-hand encounters with history and the natural world can foster a desire for life-long learning. Among its accomplishments are the award-winning restoration of the cottage where Jack and Charmian London lived after acquiring “Beauty Ranch” and the completely re-imagined House of Happy Walls Museum. Jack London Park Partners depends on the generosity of individual donors and foundation and corporate grantors in providing programming, operating and maintaining the land and historic structures.
