Camp Bob Waldorf: Jewish Cultural Session includes a wide range of activities such as team building exercises, a climbing wall, a high ropes course, arts and crafts, drama, singing, dance, video, horseback riding, hiking, animal care, and nature-focused programs. Camp Bob Waldorf: Jewish Cultural Session is part of a pluralistic, non-denominational overnight Jewish camp for youth in approximately 2nd–12th grade, with programs including Trail Blazers teen camp for current 8th–12th graders and Leaders-in-Training and Pillar Leaders programs for campers currently in 10th–11th and 11th–12th grades. The program is built upon four core pillars: Community (Kehillah), Inclusion (Keshet), Identity (Atzmi), and Respect (Kavod), and includes a spirited Shabbat celebration and a focus on Jewish cultural values such as Tikkun olam (repairing the world), Karod (Respect), and Kehillah (community). Campers live in a cabin with their peers along with two to three trained counselors.
Camp Bob Waldorf is accredited by the American Camping Association, which verifies compliance with over 300 nationally recognized standards for operation, and a registered nurse is on campsite at all times with a local physician on call who serves as medical advisor. Camp Bob Waldorf is owned and operated by Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles, a 100-year-old nonprofit organization, and is a nonprofit camp. Its mission states that Camp Bob Waldorf enriches the lives of youth throughout Greater Los Angeles with tools and a support system from elementary school to college and beyond, driven by the values of community, inclusion, identity, and respect.
Camp Bob Waldorf is owned and operated by Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles (JBBBSLA), which assists youth in achieving their full potential through programs including Youth Mentorship, Camp Bob Waldorf, and College Access + Success, and camp scholarships are awarded in part through support from Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, Foundation for Jewish Camp, and Samueli Foundation. The leadership team includes Katie Toole (Vice President of Camp & Retreat Operations), Sofia Varona (Assistant Director / Assistant Camp Director), Rob Rodriguez (Program Director), Guadalupe Muñoz Zaragoza (Registration and Outreach Associate), Brian Sapp (Facilities Assistant), Lynn Dutson (Facilities Coordinator), Elvis Torres (Facilities Team Member), Rebecca Staff (Recreation & Retreats Program Coordinator), and Alfred Aguilar (Executive Chef).
