About
KD MMA Mixed Martial Arts Academy offers classes in Jiu Jitsu, Grappling, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Judo, Boxing, Mixed Martial Arts, and Pro MMA classes. The program includes Kids Gi Jujitsu, Adult Gi Jujitsu, Gi Grappling, No Gi Grappling, MMA classes, and general martial arts classes. It also offers private 1-on-1 live Skype lessons and management for professional fighters.

Master Karen Darabedyan is the main MMA instructor and was trained by Sensei Gokor Chivichyan at Hayastan MMA Academy, which is ranked the #1 academy in Judo and Grappling. He holds black belts in Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Karate, and Taekwondo and is an Armenian American mixed martial arts fighter. He began karate at age 5 and taekwondo at age 9, earning black belts in both by age 15, and later added boxing, kickboxing, judo, and wrestling, earning a black belt in judo by age 16 and a 12-0 amateur boxing record by age 18. During high school, he claimed two judo state championship titles and placed third in the nation. He placed 1st in the Men’s No-Gi Lightweight division at the 2004 Grapplers Quest, won 1st place at under 189.9 pounds in the 2007 World Grappling Games Best of West, and won the NABJJF Worlds in the black belt division in 2013. He competed in his first mixed martial arts fight at age 18, winning in the first round by KO, and has compiled a 13-6 record. Karen Darabedyan currently trains with Gokor Chivichyan and Gene LeBell at Hayastan Academy in North Hollywood and at Main Event Gym in Glendale and is described as an excellent teacher who patiently explains, presents, and personalizes details for both advanced and beginner learners.
KD MMA works with kids, established professional fighters, aspiring pro fighters, and anyone looking to learn mixed martial arts. The academy manages professional MMA fighters by preparing fighters for their pro debuts, booking fights, and negotiating contracts so fighters can focus on training and their professional fighting careers. It is active in tournaments and offers private 1-on-1 lessons to international and out-of-state individuals or fighters via live Skype video calls.
