Mychal’s Learning Place has existed from at least 2002 to 2026. Its mission is to provide support, training, and opportunities to youth and young adults with developmental disabilities to build their independence and pursue their goals and dreams. The organization operates social enterprises where young adults have the opportunity to overcome learning barriers and acquire job skills, including Mychal’s Café & Bakery and Mychal’s Print & Embroidery, and Mychal’s Café is described as a welcoming environment where individuals can learn, grow, and build meaningful job skills through hands-on training and real-world experience. Mychal’s Café is a social enterprise dedicated to empowering individuals through employment training, and Kate is a Mychal’s Café employee who works both front and back of house and advocates for the autism and epilepsy communities. Much of Mychal’s Learning Place funding comes from Regional Centers, and the organization also depends on fundraising events, corporate donations, and foundation support to cover its costs.
