Healdsburg Center for the Arts Youth Education Programs

Healdsburg Center for the Arts Youth Education Programs are part of a multidisciplinary arts organization that includes ongoing art instruction, after school programs, mentoring for artists, and a six-week Summer Art Camp. The programs connect with the Young Artist Show, which has featured artwork from ten area elementary schools and the HCA youth education program, including over 410 young people in the 2016 exhibit.

Healdsburg Center for the Arts has a history that began when the Healdsburg Arts Council was incorporated in December 1993, later opening a permanent home as Plaza Arts in April 2002, receiving non-profit community benefit designation in December 2003, and becoming Healdsburg Center for the Arts in 2010. The organization describes its mission as being the community catalyst for inspiring discovery and exploration of the arts and notes a history going back twenty-six years in its about page context. The Board of Directors includes Kathy Birdsong, Candy Paulson, Victoria Schandler, Colin Deas, Phillip McDonel, and Barbara McDonel. The organization is recognized as a cultural anchor in Healdsburg and surrounding communities and has produced pop-up exhibitions, art classes, and workshops in various vacant spaces around town, as well as community-supported events such as Miniatures in the Manor, Opera in the Garden, and the annual Healdsburg Art Festival. The Young Artist Show is described as one of its most popular exhibitions, and the organization operates with a team of volunteers who staff the gallery, coordinate and assist at events, hang exhibits, and advise the Board, with business and government sponsors that include the City of Healdsburg, County of Sonoma, Healdsburg Tourism Improvement District, and Healdsburg Forever.
