About
Summer Camps at The Bishop's Ranch take place as part of the Ranch’s summer camp offerings. The program is connected to other Ranch activities such as retreats, conferences, celebrations of special life events, and Ranch sponsored programs.
The Bishop’s Ranch was founded in 1947 when the Ranch House and 63 acres were purchased by the Episcopal Diocese of California to create a retreat center for local clergy. It is a self-supporting ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of California and offers hospitality to religious, secular, community, and nonprofit groups. The mission of The Bishop's Ranch is to share a place of rare beauty through hospitality that nourishes spirit, body and mind. The organization provides hospitality for retreats, conferences, summer camp, and other gatherings to groups and individuals from the Diocese of California, other churches, as well as spiritual and secular community groups and non-profit organizations. A retreat guest from St. John’s Oakland described it as “one of the most beautiful places to stay.”
The leadership team includes Aaron Wright (Executive Director), Rachel Spessard (Reservations Coordinator), Matt Kissmann (Facilities & Land Manager), Brooke Wright (Marketing & Communications Manager), Cara Anderson (Business Manager), Kandie Faurot (Executive Chef), Mari Gonzalez (Housekeeping Manager), Aspen Santillan (Accounting & HR Manager), The Rev. Father Brendan E. Williams (Chaplain), and Julie Miller (Host & Ranch Naturalist). The Bishop’s Ranch board members are volunteers, including Chairman of the Board The Rt. Rev. Austin Rios (Diocese of California), President Jessica Metoyer (St. Mary the Virgin, San Francisco), Vice President Kira Austin-Young (St. Mary the Virgin, San Francisco), Treasurer Mary Claugus (Diocese of Northern California), Treasurer Emeritus James Forsyth (Diocese of California), Secretary Jack Klemeyer (St. Luke’s, San Francisco), and members Jac Cherry (Grace Cathedral, San Francisco), Ashley Clark (St. Mary the Virgin and Grace Cathedral), Phyllis Culp (St. Augustine’s, Oakland), Chip Larrimore (Christ Church, Sausalito), Tom Matthews (St. James, San Francisco), Lisa Mirza Grotts (St. Paul’s, Healdsburg), Ryan Robinett (Santiago St. James, Oakland), Wendy Sinek (All Souls, Berkeley), Marjorie Sun (St. John’s, Ross), Richard Tarlov (St. Gregory of Nyssa, San Francisco), Lydia Villa (Transfiguration, San Mateo), and David Walker (St. Paul’s, Healdsburg).
