About

E-Sports offers free inclusive sports programs where kids take part in soccer, basketball, martial arts, fitness, dance, football, and warmups and activities. The program includes both typical and special needs kids participating together in these athletic activities, with no experience necessary to join. Activities are led by volunteer coaches and most E-Sports sessions are broken up by age group.

• Price: Free inclusive sports programs for everyone.

The E-Sports mission is “Exceptional Sports Empowering kids to reach their full athletic and social potential,” and it includes several Bay Area community service programs that specialize in inclusion by partnering kids with typical and special needs alongside each other in various athletic capacities. E-Sports are free, weekly athletic programs that apply inclusion and focus on both kids’ social experience and building lasting friendships, as well as developing athletic skills and teamwork. E-Sports has grown from its inception during an afternoon car ride in April 2000 into an organization that includes one mission and six sports: soccer, basketball, martial arts, fitness, dance, and football.

The leadership team includes Founder Russ Ewell; Co-Founder/Director Greg Bodzioch; Community Engagement Directors and E-Hoops Directors Ray and Amy Kim; E-Fitness Director Brian Nitta; E-Dance Directors Bernard and Tracey Jones; E-Karate Directors Brendan and Kim Murray; Head Coaching Coordinator for E-Soccer Gerry Iroaga; and Inclusive Training Coordinator Jynette Oji. Founder Russ Ewell has received a Congressional Citation from U.S. Congressman Tom Lantos for the E-Soccer program and the Jefferson Award in recognition of his impact on the youth of the Bay Area community.

These programs have pioneered an inclusive sports philosophy and serve hundreds of families annually around the Bay Area and internationally, with impact reaching from California to Kenya. E-Sports has growing partnerships with the San Jose Earthquakes, Golden State Warriors, and other Bay Area sports entities, including E-Hoops scrimmaging at halftime during the Warriors’ Special Needs Family Appreciation Night and special E-Soccer sessions at Avaya Stadium, home of the San Jose Earthquakes. The USF men’s and women’s basketball teams work with E-Hoops San Francisco, and CNN Philippines has covered E-Soccer after its launch in Manila. E-Sports locations include Hercules E-Hoops, and parents have opportunities to connect with other parents during sessions.
